As a former college professor (World Religion, Asian Studies, Art History, Studio Arts) and textbook author, Shivani comes to Hendersonville from sunny Florida.  She teaches from 25 years of yoga practice, experiencing an extensive variety of styles and derivatives such as Kripalu, Integral, Amrit, Yin, Sivananda, Bihar, Yogananda, Iyengar, Siddha, and Bikram. Her classes are inspired by her knowledge of a variety of sacred texts, which she has studied and also taught. The Holy Bible, Holy Koran, the Buddhist sutras, the Teo Te Ching, Analects of Confucius, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Yoga Sutras.

She feels honored and privileged to be a personal student of Sri Gurudev, Yoga Amrit Desai, founder of the Kripalu Center in MA and the Amrit Yoga Institute in FL.  She feels gratitude for the many teachers she has studied with, including Swamis Satchidananda and Asokananda; Chadrakant John Niester, Veda Lewis, and Elaine Gray.

Her practice encourages her to teach from real life experience, having traveled/lived on 5 continents.  Shivani's passion is chant, and she feels fortunate to have experienced over 2 dozen ashram immersions and 2 full Pancha Karma cleansings.

Today, teaching yoga helps her to practice seva as she offers her teachings at Spiritus Studio as a community service.  As a teacher for over 35 years, Shivani believes this: everyone in her class is good enough just as they are AND everyone has room for improvement.  Her classes are gentle and customized.  She believes that postures are part of the process of personal elevation and evolution of consciousness.
