Yin Yoga

"The Missing Half of Yoga"
Taught by Arlene Riley and Pam Hester
Originally, the tradition of Hatha Yoga included not only strong muscular postures (yang) but also softer poses that opened the deeper tissues of joints, bones, and ligaments.  If you are a baby boomer and you have worn the tread on your joints, Yin Yoga is especially for YOU. Boost bone and ligament strength while holding a static, lingering stretch to the joints (which actually need stress to stay healthy). In our current "Yang" culture of speed and overstimulation, the quieting experience of Yin Yoga offers healing and balance.
 Thursdays 8:00am- 9:15am
Tuesdays 6:15pm-7:30pm

Yoga Nidra
Taught by Jo Elizabeth James
Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation, with the body supported by blankets and bolsters.  Students stay alert and awake as they witness and experience the lack of activity in the mind and body.  The practice cultivates awareness while easing students into a state of bliss.  It has been said that as little as 20 minutes of "yogic sleep" in Yoga Nidra is the equivalent of 1-2 hours of extra sleep. Yoga Nidra provides healing by releasing cell and tissue-repairing hormones.
 Sundays 6:30pm- 7:30pm

Restorative Yoga  Class
Taught by Elizabeth Katin
Give yourself the treat of a spa-like experience with Restorative Yoga.  Poses that invite opening the body (rather than stretching) promote peace and well-being.  Restorative yoga teaches the art of non-doing, a healthy balance to our culture of "more is better".
